For a country, that has an unfriendly neighbour brewing and sponsoring terrorism and insurgent terrorist activities, the prospect of nuclear proliferation serves as a real threat. In a seminar on Asian security, Indian foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee warned about the danger that India and the world face from new states acquiring nuclear capability and the threat arising out of nuclear weapons falling in the hands of terrorist groups.
India lives under constant threat from Islamic terrorist groups. Though functioning chiefly in Jammu and Kashmir, these groups have links throughout the country, as evident from the rise in incidents of bomb blasts throughout the nation. India has acquired nuclear arsenal that serves as a minimum deterrent as a part of its defense policy.
Asia not only has the largest number of terrorist groups active on its soil but the continent also has a large number of corrupt people who could easily be lured by the terrorist groups to hand over state secrets. Not only for India but also for the entire global community a nuclear war is the last thing we would ask for.
